Mr Gcoomcs has introduced a Bill to provide for preferential voting. Mr Reid objeoted to the measure as a political manoeuvre to serve the immediate interests of the Government. Such important alterations should not be sprung on the House just on the eve of a general election. He had some sympathy with a Bystem of preferential voting, but condemned such a method of dealing with it. The Bill was read a first time.
