WIFE HUSBAND.
Adelaide, August 7. At nieo o’cloi-k ou Friday night Ada Hassett murderously attucked her husband, John, aged 85 years, with an axo. Tho police, on going to the Golden Ruio Hotel, ia tho oity, found Hassett on a bed, his head covored with blood, and his wife seated beside him, looking at her unconscious husband, She lo’d the pokes that she " did it with an axe, whioh was iu the fihed,” where a constable afterwards found if, with blood aud hair on the blade.
Hassett succumbed to his injuries early this miming. Jealousy is said lo have caused tho woman to so murderoufly attack her husband,
William Cbarhs Dawes, licensee of the Golden Ruin Kioto!, sa-d deceased called at the hotol ou July 31 aud asked for a room, Prisoner, who ho said was hia wife, was with him, aud occupied the room. Tho co tple wero very quiet, and orderly in tboir behavior. On Friday evening prisoner went to him while he was in the bar and siid, 1 havo killed ruy husband.’’ Witness aooompanied In to tho room, and prisoner said, " He is not quito dead ; I had better g?t a doctor.” About 5 o’clcok thn same atterncou rherasod bought half a bottle of common light wine. He served prisoner with another half bottle of the same kind of wine at 8 o’clock, and about 9 she had another half bottle. When
prisoner told him that she had killed her husband she was as cool and as collected
as at any other time To all appearances she was sober. Prisoner said she killed her husband with an axe lie did not hear any quarrelling in the room occupied by prisoner and deceased. After Dr Magey had given evidence, the jury returned a verdict of wilful murder against prisoner, who was committed for trial.
