TRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Reoeived 11 14 p.m., August 15. Oapetown, August 15. The recent decision of the English Courts on the De Baers oase formed tbe Bubjeot of a resolution moved by Mr Merriman in tho Cape Assembly, and it was uoaoimoußly adoptrd. It expressed regret that the Imperial Government had taxed companies which to all iDtents and purposes were South Afrioan. Such proceedings would have oonsequenoes prejudicial to tbe beßt interests of the Empire. Mr Merriman remarked that the oolony must turn to the Da Baers Company for the means of moetiDg interest on the oolony, but they were now hampered and prevented from imposing a legitimate tax on that undertaking. He predicted that next session au irresistible demand would be made by the Cape to tax diamonds. Therefore it was important to prevent the Motherland intervening and taking dues belonging to tbe oolony. The last clause of the resolution implied that the De Beers might fix their headquarters at Paris, America, or elsewhere.
