GUILTY OF FRAUD. t-UKSS ASSOCIATION Christchurch, yesterday. Tho Suproiuo Court was occupiod today in heaving tho charges against Francos llonry Bruges, solicitor, and
his clorlc, James Good man. Tho accused aro charged with tho theft of several sums of money, amounting in all to £U>.‘7 -Is Evidence was given at great length to show that money had boon paid by Goodman for Bruges for mortgage, but his cheats, uo: being ablo to got any bill or money, Bruges became bankrupt, and tho subsequent proceedings elicited tho facts ou which the present charges wero laid. Tho hearing is proceeding.

Frauds Henry BcugfP, solicitor, aud J lines Goodmau, his clerk, wero charged a*, the Suprime Court to-day with stealing £260 in March, 1901, and £2OO in April, 1903, belonging to Honry Tuck. Evidence was given that tho raonoy wero handed by Tuck to Goodmin te bo invested on mortgage, but it was not so inve-fced, and Tuck bad lost the money. Bruges stated ho was absolutely unaware that such transactions bad beeD carried on, and ho had been misled by Goodman. Tho money lending portion of tho business was uoder tbe control of Goodm-m.
Later.—ln the Brugoi and Goodman case no evidence was called on b.-balf of Goodman. The jury i o ired 1 half-past-tan, and at 1145 tetarned with a verdict of guilty against both accused, who wero remanded till te-morrow for sentence,
