ALL TENDEI.S DECLINED. THE TYSER SERVICE DEEMED SUFFICIENT. PRESS ASSOCIATION
Wellington, last night. Throo tondors wore received by tho Government from four shipping companies for a regular service totwron Now Z ealand and South African ports. Tho tenders ivorc £50 ,000 per annum for a six-weekly service, Xitj.OUO for n voyage every two months, and i’27,000 was tho lowo-1 tender for a six-wetkly service, consisting of ono o.tigj sioouior without refrigrrat ng space, and two steamers vviih refrigerating space. Tho Premier was of opinion that tho prices were ull 100 high and beyond tho moans of tho colony.
"In fact,” said Sic Joseph Waul Ibis aftomcou, " the tondors were higher for the services to ho performed than the p-iej paid under tho former ooutraot (£30,000 per annum for monthly voyages).” Ho thought tho nerds of tho colony vvoti'd ho fairly mot by tho service which tho Tysor Company has decided to establish. This included oails at South African ports, On tho Preuper’s recommendation, at a meeting this morning, it was decided to decline all tho touilor?.
