Saturday's Auckland Ilcrnid reports u serious collision, particulars of which were not telegraphed to Gisborne, lit appears that the Talune, which was inward bound from Southern and East Cape ports, came up the harbor on Friday morning, the master thinking tnal his vessel would berth at the western side of the Queen street wharf, he received word that the berth for the steamer was at Quay street jetty No. *2. Captain Stewart, of the Talune, stopped the steamer’s engines, thinking that lie was all dear, but the strong ebb tide carried the Talune broadside on to the Pioneer's bow. The impact was a fairly strong one, but the Talune soon got clear, and reached her berth safely shortly afterwards. An examina lion of the steamer was made by the Government inspector of machinery after daylight, when it was found that Ihc only damage done was the denting of two or three plates in the hull. The warship, however, did not come off so luckily, for her beam was damaged, and a good deal o water made its way into the forward com partment. The Pioneer was iloated into the Calliope Dock on Friday evening, and Gil examination of the hull was to have been ’made next day to discover flic extent of the damage.
