ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. j PRESS ASSOCIATION 1 Palmerston North, yesterday. 1 In the Polios Court today John Jar vie Qillies, proprietor of a butter factory at Bunnythorpe, was charged with wilfully placing an explosive in Nathan and Co.’s dried milk faotory at Bunnythorpe on July 22ad, and thereby causing damage to tbe amount of £250. Several witnesses were examined ih's morning as to the extent of the damage. Deteotive Q tirke detailed a lengthy conversation he had had with aocused, with the object of showing Gillies’ business would be affected by the reopen* iDg of the dried milk faotory. Gillies admitted to tbe detective being out juet before the explosion, between 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning, but said he went to bis brother’s bouse for med'cine for a child. At the Magistrate’s Court to day John Jafvie Gi lies was committed for trial on a charge of causing an explosion at the Dried MPJi Faotory at Bunnythorpe. The evidence of detectives showed tbataccused said he went out to his brother's place about the time of tbe eXplo-ion to get medicino for a sick daughter. Tbe brother deu'ed the visit. The other evidence is circumstantial
