DEATH OF MR GORTON.

THE INQUEST. An ouquiry into tho circnmst-inoes surrounding the death of Georgo John Gorton, was hold at Makauri yesterday afternoon, beforo Mr W. A. Witness askM him wbat was tbo matter, and Gorton, placing his hands over his heart, said, " The pain is ail iu my heart.” Askc-d if ho had suffered iu tho enmo way bo'o:o dooeasod said "No.” Mr Harper 6lion oama in and gimo him sorno painkillor, deoeased shortly afterwards saying thus iu felt better, Witness advised him to lio down for a little wlrD, whiob ho did. Witness then left, uni calling at Mr Wittors' houso informed them of what be had seon. From whst Miss Witters said witness again went into tUa road, aud found Mr Witters holding dceoused iu a sitting position. Taoy lifted him on to tho sidd of the road, and ho imrardiatoly g-ivo a gasp aud died. Ho, vvttn Mr liryca. rouioved tho body to whoro it was at prosent, Alfioi Philip Other, duly qualified medical praosniouor at Gisborne, stated that he mada a post moitmi examination of iho body, and found tho oauso of death to bo congestion of the lungs, which eausod heart failure.

A verdict was roturnod in accordance with the medical testimony.
