The Austrian Consul, who was proceeding to Brazil, was found floating. He had given his lifebelt to a woman and child. Ho was on the point of drowning when resoued.
The sinking et tamer threatened to engulf the fishing boats. Joven Miguel, captain of one of the boats, intimidated his orew to remain and resoue more. He oompelled the resoued to go below after they were taken from the water, and thus to make room for others.
A lame fisherman sucoceded in rescuing 12 persons.

A passenger narrates that roughs in the water belabored a floating group of women with fists, and snatched their lifebelts. All the group were drowned.

The Daily Telegraph’s Madrid correspondent states that the officers of the Sirio aro severely oensured for abandoning their posts and not attempting to rescue the passengers. The captain has fled. The officers alleged that he oemmitted suieide in order to give him time to reaoh a place of safety.
