SOME WILD RUMORS.
THE SEDDON BARONETCY,
MR REEVES’ PLANS,
Special to the Times. Wellington, last night. I gither that some newspaper correspondent has been epieadiog a wdd rumor totbesffc-et that those who arc usually considered to be in tho know deduce from Sir J. Ward’d sileDCo in regard to hU conversation with tha King that it ia more than probtble th at Mrs S.ddon will be offered a baronetcy. The suggestion, of court'-, is absolutely ridiculous, and those “in tho know ” are fully aware that tho King would never mention such a matter in a private conversation with Sic Joseph Ward, nor would Sir Joseph Ward talio the liberty to mention euch a matter to tho K’ng, except through the ordinary official channels. As a mattsr of fact such a proposal was never mooted. Sir Joseph’s conversation wi h the King was quits an informal ore, and nothing was said that might not bo published without oauaing the least sensation, but Sir Joseph very properly recognised that it would not be et:quetta to stato hr publicat’on anything that took pluco in a priva'e conversation with His Msjrsly, This was the stand bo tock when approached by tho London pressmen ou tho sulj-ci, and it was also the position he took upon his arrival here. There is no ha m, however, in m,y stating that hs was greatly impressed by the King’s knowledge of affairs, and tho keen interest bo displayed in all that pertained to the- welfare of his subjsc’s beyond the seas. Tee o aro no more loyal people than those of New Zealand within the Empire, and tbry will rn doubt be pleased to learn the impression formed on this subject by so shrewd an observer as our new Premier.
The other rumor that ia being bruited about is to ihe ffi ct that Mr W. B. Reeves, our present High Commissioner in London, s about to return to New Z’a'aod, Tbis s just about aa wild a story a 3 the one bout the King and Sir Joseph Ward and he baronetcy.
