SOME OUTSPOKEN OBITIOISM, IJRKSS ASSOCIATION Dunedin, last night. The annual meeting of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce was held (o-day, when Mr R. Maris Clark, president, delivered an address reviewing the principal events of the year, and spoke of the prospects for the coming year, whioh on tho whole bo considered are oheering. He referred to the change made in the oloßing of the railway goods sheds at 4.30 as a high-handed proceeding. Referring to the Department of Industries and Commerce, l«pt on at a cost of i 40,067 ennua'ly, he said members tyould be surprised to learn that beyond sending the Chamber some copies of the Consular reports they have had absolutely no communication from the Department during the year, o: indeed i since its existence. Surely, if tho Department desiree to fulfil the duties its title implies, it eould do so more completely if it kept in touch with the various Chambers of Commerce throughout the oolony, The President a’so spoke of the State Fire Department, and said this new experiment might land itself and its policyholders in serious difficulties if a catastrophe a la San Fiaeoiaio occurs. Mr J. W. Henton was elected president for the coming year.
