FLAX INDUSTRY.
AN IMPORTANT DIBCOVERY. PRESS ASSOCIATION Wellington, last night. Mr T. J. Mitchell, tbe well known flaxmiller, of Hamdton, has di-covered a new prooess of treating New Zsalind hemp, The green flax is boiled in a tank containing a ohemieal whioh reduces everything 'but the fibre to a soft pulp. This pulp is then soraped off, and the fibre dried. Among Ihe advantages of tbe new prooess Mr Mitchell mentions that Ihe fibre is Dot ‘bruised. There will also be a considerable saving in fibre. The soutch'ng paddocking will not be required, The process is quite d fferent from the previously attempted chemioal proossscs, and Ihe necessaiy liquid cau be produoed at a cost consistent with commercial suocces. Mr Mitchell will ehow samples of the fibre to flax* millers of tbe province in :a conference to* morrow at Auck'and.
