BAR FATALITIES.
I'RESS ASSOCIATION Wastpoit, last night. The four men drowned ou Hararuea bar yesiorday were employed for tho time being under the Public Works Department. Mr Thompson, surveyor, had been engaged for some time surveying in pursuance of a scheme of harbor improvement. He bad praotically finished his work, and returned to Westport on Tuesday. A telegram arrived from Wellington requiring bar soundings, and Mr Thompson was advised here to obtain a ship’s boat and Bailor men for the job. He went back to Karamea yesterday morning, and employed the soow Rangi’s men, and QuDter, who had previously worked for him.
