Wellington, last night. A laborer named Charles Charman, aged 50, suffering from incurable cancer on tho stomach, shot himself dead with a revolver at Victoria Homo for Chronic Invalids. Tho man had suffered great pain, and tho doctors gave him only a little longer to livo. A verdict of suicide while suffering from an incurable disease was returned.
Invercargill, last night. The police to-day raided tho premises known as the Shamrock hotel, and seizod a keg of beer and a small quantity of whiskey.
Wairoa, last night. Telephone communication with Lake House, Waikaremoana, was opened this morning. Unfortunately, two feet six inches of show fell shortly after and blocked communication.
Heavy rain has fallen since Satur* day and tho river is in flood.

The Theatro Royal syndicate are about to invite tenders for a new theatre. Probably the work will be under way within a few weeks. It is not probable tho building will bo ready for tho opening of the Exhibition.
