Tho monthly moofing of tho Provincial Exeoutivo of tho N Z. Farmers’ Union was held in Mr W. L's-am Clayton’s office yesterday morning. Them worn pr-senl: Mr Ohambors (President), and Mo-srs Hutohinson, Clayton, W »tsOD, Wallis, Kent, QoldoD, and Caesar. CORRESPONDENCE.
Mrs Seddtn wroto thanking tbe Ex-ou
tivo for their expression of sympathy in oonnrction with tho do*th of her bus band.—Tho mooting endorsed MrOlaylon’s aotion in eooding a wreatb at tbs time of tbo late Premier’s funeral. The Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Union wroto stating that the whole matter of mutual fire insurance upon whioh the Poverty Bay Exeoutivo had writ'on would bo gone into at tho moating of direotors of the A scoiation on July Tho Ghborno branch wrota in connection with the freight quest-on dealt wiih at tbe previous meeting of the Exeoutivo. Tho branch appointed Messrs Lysnar and Oaraoron to meet tho Exeoutivo on the matter.
Tho Motu branob wrote forwarding resolutions in favor of local oommitteos for valuation purposes, and favoring tbe Union holding sooial gatherings. It bad written to the Minister for Lands requesting that tbe Motn village sections, eon. iaining 100 aores, already sub-divided, situated opposite tbo Motu bridge, bo thrown open immediately. Tho Exeoutivo was asked to suppoit tbe riqueßt. Teis was agrood to. Several matters wero brought before the
Exeoutivo by the Waimata branch. Mr Watson, in moving that tho branoh’s request in regard to aoeident insurance be agreed to, said that they asktd that the local agent should have power to settle olaime, which would strengthen the company in doiDg business. It was deoidtd to write to tho head offioe as requested. The Waimtta branch also forwarded a rrsolution in regird to the suggested extension of tbe Parliamentary franchise to
local bodies eleotions, and a<-kcd tbo cooperation of tho Executive in preventing this injustice. Mr W, L. Olayton said the matter had been brought up every year before the Colonial Exeoutivo. It would not lie lost sight of.
Mr Wa*son said tbe reaeon for this was
that in eviry paper they saw some refer* enos to it by labor federation?, and it was considered they should keep their side of it before tbe publio. Mr Clayton said the whole question was odo of representation without taxation. It was decided to briog the matter before tbe chief local bodies of tbo district and the Chamber of Commoroe.
Il was deoided to prial for olroulation amongst the branches an article by Earl Gray, Governor-General of Canada, on teohoioal education in Canada, kindly suppliod by Mr Wm, Morgan, Feoretary of the High Sohool Beard of Governors and teobnioa! classes. The Colonial Exeoutivo notified that the fifth annual meeting of the Colonial Counoil would to bold at Wellington pro* babiy in tbo first or second week of August owing te tbo adjournment of Patliamen ,, l instead of the 20th inst.—The order paper for the conference was then gene through, and the Exeootive gave its veto or support to the one hundred and one snbjeots upon the order paper for discussion, as an instruction toils representative, Mr Clayton. On the motion of Mr Hutohinson, it was deoided to hold the meetings on the second Friday in eaoh month. Mr A. Graham was appointed assistant seoretary, Mr W. L. C ayton to act as honorary seoretary and supervise the oorrespondonoe. On lha motion of Mr Ctoar, a hearty vote of thank) was accorded Mr Clayton for bis assistance to the Uoioa. The mover said they should tank) eomo recognition of Mr CiaytOD’s past services to the Executive, and show their appreciation by having something put dowo in the minute book, even if it gave Mr Clayton a little extra troublo to write it down. The meeting then adjourned.
