Dunedin, lasi right. _ A sitting of the Assessment Court f r Tokounairirio district was Jiold to-day, ,n which a good deal of interest was taken, many farmers taking strong exception to the Government valuations. Origilial^ - fifty objections were put on, but in tlicse compromises were arrived at, and in others the objections wero not supported No settlement was arrived at
in six eases. After hearing evidence the Court reduced the valuation in these six cases, one, however, being subject to the condition that Court had power to do so. Tho farm in this ease was leased by a mother to her son, who paid rent,which suppoitsd tho department’s -valua tions. Counsel contended that tho valuation had to be fixed according to the evidenco and not according to tho rental.
