THE DEATH OF MRS CROSS,

Cbriste&arcb.iast nighi. • An adjourned ic-quost was held to-day loDobing the death or Mrs. Jane Cross, who was found dead in the Ecullery of her boußß in SydeDbam last Saturday afternoon, with the lower pari of her body very badly burned. She bad been living by boraelf for the week, for her husband was) away working. Evidence was given that a woman smoking a oigarette was seen leaving the bouse on Friday evening A Mrs Fraser admitted having visited the houss during the afternoon, but left at about 5 o'clock, Mrs Cross coming to the ga’e to Bee ber off. Other witnesses stated that Mrs Cross mast have been dead at least fifteen boars When she was found on tba Saturday afternoon, and her remaining clothes wore found to bo wet. The potonpr said that he \yas inclined to' think that after deceased's olothea caught firo somebody in tbs house attempted to pat the fire out, but finding the woman was seriously injured she o’.earcd out and left fcpr, He thought that the woman Fraser oould have thrown more light cn the affair than she had done. At bis suggestion tbe jury returned an open verdipi.
