STARVED TO DEATH.

(Per Piess Association.) Dunedin, last night,

An inquest was held at Higboliff to-day respeotiog the death of Bridget McOredie, a widow aged 71, found dead in her cottage. The medical evidence was to the tficOt that thete were Blight bruises on bor cbin and knees as if deceased had fallen and struggled to git up. The body was much emaciated, and tbo post mortem showed that the stomach and bowels were absolutely ompty. Daoeased died from general exhaustion and atarvation. A oonstablo in the district said that deceased’s peigbbors wonld have willingly aided her, bnt she constantly refused to accept seryioes. There was food in tbe bouse, and deceased had some money. I The jary returned a verdict that deceased died from Exhaustion and starvation, for which she alone was responsible, there being no other reason for same.
