Dunodin, last night. A public mooting was held to-uighl under the auspices of the local branch of tho Independent Political League, foi the purpose of placing bofore the public the aims and objects of the League, ant discussing the present political situation. The Hon. Mr Bolt presided, The attendance was about forty-five. Tho Chairman. while expressing approval of the platform, thought it would be well for the Labor Party not to take an isolatod position in politics, but they should havo an alliance of some sort with the demo l 'rtitic and more progressive minds ol the colony. Mr J. V. Paul and E. Fur gusou spoko in support of the Independent Labor Party, and Mr lv. Breen dealt with the Employers' Association in con-, •lection with Mr Trcgear's letter on socialism. No resolution was passed in connection with the League, but it was rcsolvod to protest against the action of the Employers’ Association "in its mou strous attempt to limit his rights as a citizen and to bring discredit on him as a public official."
Wallineton, last night. At a meeting of the Wellington llugby Union to night, a Committee was set up to ileal with a display of lamkinism wliieh took place on Saturday at the conclusion of a match on Athletic Park, and if possible find out who the ringloadcr was. At a meeting of the Anglican Synod to-night it was decided to bring before the General Synod the question of a General Mission being conducted in New Zealand by missionaries on the lines of the Mis- I sion of Help to South Africa in the year 1004.
