Mes3ra Kedstono and Sons’ Coast coach leaves for Tolago and Waipiro at half-past eight this morning. By the ss. Tarawora yesterday Mr lionayne, General Manager of Kailways, arrived on a visit of inspection to the district.

The Public Works Department have accepted the tender of Messrs Beach and Edwards, £549, for the erection of a post office at Tuparoa, and the tender of Messrs T. G. W hiting and Co., Ponsonby, £753 19s for the erection of a post office at Tokomaru.

The Union Company’s s.s. Manuka, which left Gisborne at f L am. <?a Saturday, did not reach Auckland until shortly before 10 a.m. on Sun- ; day, her passage having been proi longed ,by meeting yvith strong head winda and heavy seas across the Bay of Plenty. The s.s. Haupiri, which arrived on Saturday afternoon from East Coast ports, was much delayed on the passago. Approaching the East Cape last Thursday morning a heavy westerly wind sprang up, and when the Cape was reached the wind was blowing a har'd gale, with fierce rain squalls. Finding that it was impossible to weather the Cape, Captain Campbell decided to run back, and anchored under Waiapu Bluff, where the steamer remained until Friday morning. By that time the wind and sea had decreased, and the passage was resumed, but until the gulf was made on Saturday afternoon the weather was bad.

A pleasing ceremony took place at the Gisborne Rcchabite Tent meetmg last evening, when Bro. T. A. Holdswortb was presented with a handsomely-framed Past Chief Ruler's certificate. Tho Chief Ruler, Bro. R. H. Clark, in making the preeentation, referred to the many services rendered by the brother to the Tent, and paying a high tribute to the manner in which be had carried out his duties, Besides pais ing through all the obairs of the Tent, bo had capably fill d the position of eeoretary to the Javenile Tent. At the present time Bro. Holdsworlh held effioe as auditor, juvenile superintendent, and was one of the delegates representing the Tent on the local Friendly Societies Conference. Bro. Under date June 1 the N.Z. Herald correspondent writesMr W. K. Barker (Gisborne) and Mrs Barker are at presont on joying London. They have in contemplation a motor tour through England, visiting all the ini terosting centres at their leisure. They will go also to Scotland and Ireland, and finally, before joining their stoamor either at Marseilles or Naples, will spend some wooks on the Continent.
