Auckland, last DlgbG The gold returns of the Talisman’s Consolidated mine are £1 1,292 from -1208 tons ; Crown’ mines, £2871 from 1630 tons.
Gore, last night. Mr G. M. Thomson, F.L.B, of Dunedin, is establishing a cyanide plant at Gore for the treatment of black sand from dredges. This contains gold, but much of it is in too fine a state to be saved by the ordinary process of steaming down. Mr Thomson’s plant will command the dredge fields of Waikaia, Waikaka, Charlton, and Waimumu, and if the experiment is successful he will pay the companies a certain sum for the material.
Wanganui, last night. A local syndicate has been formed to bore for petroleum near the site of the Moturoa well, New Plymouth. Boring rights have been secured there, as also in other parts of Taranaki. A syndicate has been formed in the north to clean llax without scutching and-without piddocking, by a combination of electrical and chemical processes. A plant is now on its way out from England, and will be installed at Shannon.
Wellington, last night. The gunboat Sparrow, which was loaned to New Zealand for training purposes,- has been sold by the Admiralty to the Government of the colony for £BOO. She is to be rechristened the Richard John Seddon. Ernest Carl Max Mielsch, who attempted suicide on being arrested on a charge of the attempted murder of his wife, was brought before the Court to-day, and charged with the latter offence. As the woman is unable to leave the hospital, accused was remanded.
The Minister for Defenco has agreed to allow free passes for member of rille clubs to such rille meetings up to 100 miles, as the officer commanding the district approves. The racehorse Tilson, in negotiating an obstacle at Trontbam to day, met with injuries which will prevent his starting at the Wellington meeting this week.
Christchurch, last night. W illiam Henry Doyle, an inmate of Burnham Industrial School, was today committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on threo charges of burglary. He broke into a house at Templeton, and stole a bicycle, into the house of the schoolmaster at Burnham and stole clothing, and into the railway station at Burnham and stole an assortment of private and Government property.
