ENFORCING BLMJGHTERING REGULATIONS, . -

(Fsi Plain Association.) Auckland, last night. At the Police Court to-day Harry Wilson, a slaughterman of Mt. Roskill, was obarged. with dressing far sale a calf weighing less than 601 b. Joseph Pascoe was charged with unlawfully proouring Wilson to. dress a oalf sold to a butcher named William Morrow whiob, when weighed in the shop by the police, was fodnd ta be only 42!b. The oba-ges were brought under the regulations under the Slaughtering and Inspeclion Act. The regulation, while requiring dressed weight to be not less than 601 b, did not interpret the words " dressed weight.” It was oontended for tbe defence that dressed weight included the head, feet, skin, and fiux. The calf was admittedly one day old. Owing to the oonflict of testimony as to the probable weight of the parts mentioned, and the absence of interpretation of the words " dreseed weigh*,the Magistrate dismissed tbe case. '

William Morrow was charged with exposing for sale a calf not slaughtered in accordance with the provisions of the Act. William Olatke was charged with selling to Morrow this calf, and also with haviog slaughtered at a place not registered under the Act. This oalf was over weight.

The Stock Inspector stated there was a large traffic in oalves going on, and undoubtedly very many under weight oalves were be ing sold to restaurants, Chinese and fo on, but it was very diffiouit to catch offenders.
