Stratford. last night.
At a mooting of the Management Committeo of tho Taranaki Rugby Union last night a complaint from the Clifton Club regarding a referee was considered. After hearing evidonce on both sides the Committee found the charges unfounded, and resolved to call on the club, to apologise and withdraw by the 10th. Failing suitable apology by that date tho Club is to bo disqualified until it is forthcoming.

Groorge White, charged with misappropriatii g the funds of the Starr Bowkett Building Society, was further re landed for a week, tho investigation of tho Society’s affairs not being completed. White has boen adjudged a bankrupt on his creditors’ petition. His statement shows liabilities to be £13,91-7, assets £l2 020, unsecured creditors £2759, secured creditors £11,091, estimated value of securities £12,201.
Hastings, last night. At tho inquest on a middle-aged man named William James Colmer, who was found dead yesterday under a tree, a verdict was returned that death was caused by his neck being broken through falling from the tree.
Christohuroh, last night
Henry Deacon Raynor, secretary to the District Grand Lodge of Druids, was to-day committed to trial at the Supreme Court on several charges of embezzling moneys, the property of the Order, amounting in all to £195. Accused had boon brought back from Australia on June 12th on an extradition warrant.
The police are taking stops against furious motor driving, and to day W. J. M. Hopkins was fiaed £5 and costs for driving a car round the Bank of New Zealand corner at other than a walking pace. A witness said the speed driven was twelve miles an hour. There was a good display all round at tho Mataura poultry show to-day. The South Island Poultry Association Minorca Championship was won by J. Tiveedie, Riverton. D. Walton’s locally bred white Leghorn cock beat J. Campbell’s imported bird.
