The Commission's report poiots to the necessity of making exceptions in the deportations. There arc some Kanakas, who, owing to extreme age and bodily infirmity, would be unable to obtain a livelihood if sent to the islands. Others have lived here so long that Ih ir ftribe has become.extinct. Thejo are others whose prolonged subsistence on Engl Bh diet would unfit them for vegetable food, which chiefly constitutes the sustenance o' Kanakas at the islands. Others left their homes to esoape deeth punishment for varions breaohes of tribal laws, and if sent back would probably be'killed. The report also deals with the wives of Kaoakas who are not natives of the same islands. It considers it would bo inhuman to deport euch persons'
