Napier, last night. Tho Education Board to-day passed a motion “ That this Board expresses its deep senße of the loss sustained by the country and Empire in the lamented death of our late Premier, the Right Hon. R. J. Beddon, and desires to convey to the widow and family the deepest sympathy and condolence.”

The resignation of Mr H. L. Wilson, headmaster at Waipiro Bay, was received Sympathetic reference was made to the death of the highly esteemed teaober, Miss Oantle, who was mistress of the Patutahi sobool.

The Gisborne Distriot High School’s account for £2 10s was ordered to be paid. Miss Eyson’s salary was fixed as arranged by officer. The IPgh Sobool Board is to be a3ked te supply the door wanted, MekaurTs application for a renewal of the floo: was deferred for a report by Inspector Hill. An extra table was granted. Ormond: Tho architect to report on application for repairs to chimney and porch.

Regarding a letter reoeived from the headmaster of the Patutahi sohool in reference to a scholarship for Miss Gumming, it was decided to refer the matter to the H'gh Sohool Board of Governors at Gisborne.

The Department wrote statiog that it undertook no responsibility for teaohers’ property destroyed by fire at Gieborne school.

The question of appointing a successor to Mr Maun for Gisborne High School was referred to the Sohool Oommittee, asking them what they intend to do in the matter.

The headmaster of the Gisborne sohool, Mr F. J. Rowley, waited on the Board, and asked that new forniture be supplied at the sobool, as the salvage saved from the fire was very old and not suitable for a new, up-tc-date building. Mr Hogbeo, Inspector-General of Sobools, was in attendance, and Baid the amount required for the new sohool and for fnrnisbing it had already been paid by the Department to tbo Board, IeBB the amount of salvage aooording to the Board’s own estimate. The replacing of the old furniture by new should be done out of the maintenance fund. He would, if desired, visit the sohool, thoroughly inspect the farniture, and then oommunioale with the Board.

The offer was accepted with thanks. The Department intimated' that a grani of £75 had been made for levelling a! Kaiti.
