The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MOANING GIBBOBRE, JUNE 27, 1906. POLITICAL SITUATION.
Tj outmorr the colony speculations are being made by the newspapers as to the probable outcome of events in regard to the Ministry. South of the forecasts are palpably absurd, and are more in the form of romancing than any reasonable attempt to indicate how matters are likely to turn out in the near future. Not to be left out in the general craze for predictions, we have a forecaste to make, with the explanation that if it proves correct it is really keeping in touch with the advice never to prophesy unless you know, and if it does not prove correct —well, it will simply mean that plans have been changed in a new emergency. Mr Hall-Jones wiljl turn a deaf ear to those who are urging him to retain the Premiership. While feeling quite equal to the task he also j feels in honor bound to hand over the | leadership to Sir Joseph Ward on that gentleman’s return to the colony, and all sides will have the greatest respect I for the present Premier for the stand he has taken in the matter. Then Sir Joseph Ward and Mr Hall-Jones will work together as amicably as they have always done, Mr Hall-Jones, however, having a lirm check over Sir Joseph in those matters in which the latter is inclined to be impulsive. The assertions that Mr Hall-Jones will retire from the Ministry altogether may be set down as quite erroneous.
