THE EXHIBITION.

WEEKLY REPORT,

Far Press Association, Chnstoburcb, last night. Tne Eshibi-ion we* lily r port s'atee that Mr George McGregor arrived on Saturday wiih fifteen Maoris, who will undertake tbe necessary work in connection with the Maori pah. By tbe joint efforts of the Union and Huddart«Pa*ker Companies it is estimated that it will be pcsdble to oarry from 8000 to 10.000 passengers from Australia to i New Zealand per month, should the occasion demand it

The sports ground of the Exhibition is now practically finished. The concert ball, the fernery, and the art gallery are now practically finished, and in the course of the next day or two the latter buildings will be taken over from the contractors.

3 (To the Editor Gisborne Times.,i Sir, —Mr Whim-ay's letters to the Press f generally are, I am afraid, more inclined 1 to give one the impression of that gentleman’s importance than to give advice of a 1 practical nature. Mr Whinray talks very vaguely concerning the coming” Exhibition, suggesting a jd. rate be levied over the County and Harbor Board districts, then lie meanders oil' into a series of disjointed remarks re the late Premier and the Exhibition. Now Sir, this is not the manner of a wide awoke bu-incss man. He does not say how we are to get this rate struck. lam very much afraid Mr Whinray wants to shift this financial

burden on to the shoulders of other people, I think the fairest way would he that, those who have anything to be exhibited should be canvassed. When the number, /

etc., of exhibits lias been settled on, then let a subscription list be opened so that the public-spirited men, such as Mr Wbinray, may contribute. The balance could then be made up by striking an equal rate over the Borough and the County.—Thanking you in anticipation, I am, etc., G. H. BOL'LT. Bright Street, Gisborne, -June 21st, I‘JOG.
