Tho secretary of tho Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Mutual losuranoo Association I forwarded particulars of the Association. At the dial May the amount of cover issued was, say £15,000, the amount of signed proposals in hand coming in during tbo next three months, £8 000. In addition to this thoro wore promises of support on all sides as tho polioies foil due, and | the direotors were very hopeful. Copies of tho report of tho Taranaki and Otago Mutuals wore forwarded. They bad to arrange their immediate reserve by means of a spooial guarantee st the bank, which with the premium notes gave a roeorve at

and in the event of a big risk offering in any one building, say £ISOO or £2OOO, he took a proposal for mutual for whatever amount he thought he oould oover, and the proposal for the balance io the State office, or in some oases reinsure with Taranaki. The premium adopted was 10a as a basis rate for first-olass risks, and 14s | for seoond-olass, All others are based ou rates adopted by proprietary companies, so they were praotically working on an actuarial basis. Premium notes and tariff rates would he reduced for original shareholders to a minimum, and new members will be obarged original rates. As the direotors fixed the rates, they would be reduoed on the first opportunity, reduotion of ra'os being the main reason for the installation of the mutuals. The Board would consider favorably affiliation with Poverty Bay, and would entsr into any arrangements for a local seoretary on a commission basis and would be prepared to give Povetty Bay a representative on the Beard. There would probably be a conference of ohairmen of Mutuals in July. Mr Watson moved that the Association be asked to appoint an agent at Gisborne and a few persons who would aot as inspectors. This was seoonded by Mr Kent and carried.
