MR CARROLL’S GRIEF.

Auckland, yesterday. The Hon. Jss. Carroll iB greatly shooked and deeply grieved at the death of his colleague, with whom be has been as* soonttd eiuee 1892. He anticipates that after a meeting for the passage of imprest supply, Parliament will adjourn for three or four weeks" to enable portfolios to be allotted, and the business of the House arranged.

Auckland, last night. \ A publio meeting of citizens, originally oalled to consider the question of a fitting reoeption to Mr Seddon, was held - v to-day, The following resolution was carried, 11 That this meeting of citizens of Auckland, with feelings of deepest sorrow, testifies its sense of the irreparable loss to the Empire, and to the people' of the oolooy, by the sudden death of the late Right Hon Richard John Seddon. Prime Minister of New Zealand, and offers its heaitfe t oondolenoe to the widow and family in their hour of trial and offliotion; that this testimonial of our sympathy and sorrow be forwarded by the Aoliog-Mayor to Mrs Seddon and family.” A number of speeches were made, eulogising the life and work of the late Premier.

Many of the old miners, particularly those who in the early days were engaged on the West Coast, were deeply affeoted when the sad news was made known.
