FIRES ON STEAMER.
GOTHIC’S LOSS OVER £200.000,
SCIENTIFIC EXTINGUISHER ON WAIMATE.

The Gothic is now on an even keel. The fire has been extinguished. All the oabins were destroyed and the saloon ruined.. The s.e. Waimate, which also suffered damage by fire, has arrived at Plymouth, The fire was intermittent for ten days. Ie is believed the fires, including that on the s s, Perthshire, originated in the flax inoluded in the cargoes. Reoeived 4.37 p.m., Jane 10.
London, Jane 9. It is feared that the steamer Gothic’s loss will exoeed £200,000. A sulphur dioxide extinguisher kept the steamer Waimate's fire UDder for ten days, enabling her to preoeed to London.' The Times says that this use of a soien* tifio extinguisher saved hundreds of pounds.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, Saturday. A oable dated LondoD, Bth inßt., states that the Waimate atrived at Plymouth to»day, and proceeds to LondoD. The fire broke out in the after hold, and was ex* tioguished by Claytou's fire-extinguisher. It is anticipated that only slight damage has been done.
THE DAMAGE TO GOTHIC’S CARGO.
By telegraph* Pres* Asa’n* Copyright Received 12.48 a m., June 11. London, Juno 10. Sbaw-Savill state that the whole cargo of the Gothio’s number three bold is damaged by fire and water, and slight damage was done by the previous outbreak in hold four. None of the meat cargo was damaged.
