(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, last; night. At the annual meeting of the Licensing Committee for Waikouaitl, in aooordanoe with the verdiot of the eleotorß that thero should be a reduotiou in the number of licenses, three licenses-■ were refused, namely the Golden Fleeoe (Waikouaiti), Gilmore’s Hotel (Danback), and tbo aooommodatnn house at Waianakarua. Just at the oloeo it was mentioned that no application had been made for a license for the Maibeno Hotel. Ihe point was raised that in that case the oommittee were only entitled to reduoe the number by two others, instead of three lioenses, and it is uoderstood the Supreme C' —rt will be moved to compel the comm ee to g r ant a license to one of the hotels refused,
At Taieri seven applications for renewals were adjourned, The oommittee intimated that in aooordanoe with the re. suit of the looal option poll three of these lioenees would be refused.
The takings at the 4- and P. Society’s Winter Bhow amounted to £l7B 16s, whioh is just about the same as last year. Greyiflouth, last night. At the annual lioensiqg meeting, held to day, all applications for renewals were granted. Permission was granted to transfer the lioense of the old Gilmer Hotel to a new building to be erected iD Gression street, The application was 1 opposed by Inspeotor Wilson.
Wellington, last Dight. The Mayor and Councillors for tho newly-constituted borough of Eastbourne were elected to-day. Mr P. G. Bolton was elected Mayor by a large majority.
