A CROWDED HOUSE.
" THE GONDOLIERS."
The Majesty’s Theatip was orowdefi last night when Mr J, G, Williamson’s Oorpio Opera Oompany made their reappearance here in that most charming of all comic operas, Gilbert and Sullivan’s deligbtfdl romance, " The Gondoliers.’’ The audience was k’pt at a high pitch of enthusiasm throughout, Mr Williamson's Companies are ever assnred of fall houses in Gisborne, but it wae a happy choice to put on for the opening night an opera that never fails to draw large audienoes wherever played, and always gives satisfaction. 11 The Gondoliers ” sparkles with dainty musical gems and throughout the Company played together with a zest and animation which ensured the whole piece’ going off splendidly, The opera was splendidly mounted, and. there was a highly efficient orchestra under the able dfrrotorsbip of Mr Geo. Hall, their playing being highly appreciated by the audienoe. The opera is well kaown to most play-goers. As usual a gieat deal of internet was centred in Mr Howard I VernoD, who appeared in hia original character ef Don Alhambra del Bolera, tbe very diverting grand inquisitor, Tbe name parts of tbe Gondoliers were taken by Messrs Ohss. KeDningham and Frank Wilson, who sang and aoted splendidly, and 'were gracefully supported by tbe e'ever actresses Miss Dolly Cisllesand Miss Aggie Thorn, who both charmed tbe
audience with their singing, dancing, and acting. Mss Vinia de Loit'o had the part of Oaßilda, of whioh she made a striking sucoess, and with the always popular Miss Celia Ghiloni as the Duchess of PlazsToroa splendid result was achieved. As the Duke, Mr H. H. Wall ßo6 did exceedingly well, bis cleverest work being in the tuition of the Gondoliers, and in his dances. Mr Arthur Orane successfully tock the part of Lu'z, and other characters were Antonio (Mr Walter Whyte), Gergio (Mr Fred England), Fiametta (Miss Ruby Armfield), Giulia (Miss Vera Buttel), Vittori (Miss L. Bergin), Inez (Miss B, Farey),’ In some of the pieces there were numerous onoores, and eßch of tbe leadets had several gems whioh were a great delight to tbe audience. Tbe Radium Ballet,
which had boen anticipated with marked interest, proved as great an attraction in Gisborne as elsewhere, being a great novelty, as well as a very pleasing per* formance, in keeping with the descriptions already given in the Times,
" PRINOEBB IDA.” To-night the oompany stage that uni versally popular opera, 11 Prinoess Ida,’ which is sure to attraot a full house.
