TBE ANNUAL MEETING.
The Waiopu Lioonsing Committeo held its first qdduol meeting at noon yostetday. there being present: The Chairman (Mr Barton, 8 M), Messrs J. Tombloßon, J. Somorvell, D. Hepburn, and G. E. Darton. Long reports were made by the polioe on the diSerent hotels. Tbe reports as to the town hotels wore satisfactory, excepting that a few minor requirements woro mentioned in some cases, but a number of complaints woro made against oountry hotele. . (Mr NolaD), Dalgety and Co. (Mr Nolan) G MatthewsoD, Williams and Katie, Common, Shelton and Co., John Sheridan. .
A temporary transfer was granted from T. J. Wright to J. Walker (Mr Nolbl ) for Sea View Hotel.
Te Rabui Hotel.—The Chaimm said there was sn objection in Ibis care. Mr A. W. Bees said ho had fivo or six witnesses to call on behalf of app’icaot, but later on an application for adjournment to thß 29th in t. was granted, to enable furthir evido'co to be qbtained. Tho Oha'.rman iaid bo was satisfied that the accommodation was sufficient for present situation, but wholfcc - the lou-'o was nsocssary in the district was another matter.
Waerenga-a-hika Hotel (Mr NolaD) Members of the Committee reported adversely as to tho beds, boddiDg, and general appearance of tbe bouse. Applic tion adjourned to 29th inst. to give not cs of objection. Rose Hotel (Mr Reeß). —Tho Chairman intimated that this would be adjourned to tho 29;h to givo them an opportunity of going ov; r the hotel, and further, that the licenso would not then be granted to tho present applicant. Mr Rees said an endeavor would be mado to meot the wishes of the Bench.
RaDgalira Hotel (Mr NolaD). —The Chairman said he was satisfied that the hotel would bo vory up-to data when tho a toratiocs wero completed. Tuparoa Hotel (Mr Nolan). —This application being objected to was adjourned to tbe 29th, the Chairman saying ire would in tho meantime visit the promises himself. Motu Hotel. —In this case extra accommodation and improvements had been stated to be necessary, but Mr Hansen not appearing tho application was adjourned to tlic 29th, and it was intimated in the meantime Mr Hansen should have some plan of improvements submitted. Pakarac Hotel (Mr Nolan). —The Committee considered it unfair to require tho applicant to rebuild, as the proposed bridge would probably be some distaucc from tho house ; all they could ask for was that the house be kept in reasonable repair. Application granted with the usual condition as to punt. The meeting was adjourned until the 29th inst,
(Far Press Aeeoelation.) Wellington, last night. At Ihe anneal meeting of the Newtown Licensing Committee to day, all licenses were renowed. There were no applies tions for the extension of the dosing hour. Ten o’clock closing will therefore continue. Dunedin, la6t Dight. At tho annual meeting of the Bruoo L’ceDaing Committee all applications wore granted save in Ibrfo eases, whero adjournments were made for repairs to be carried out. Objeotion was mude by tho Rev. W. Thomsen, on Lohalf of the Licoused Victuallers’ Assooiatiou, to one application on tho ground of his manager, and bo aieo raised tho question as to sobtiety. Counsel objected to MrThomson as baviDg no locus standi. The chairman said the mattor must be brought before tho Court in the proper way. The case was allowed to stand over till tho end of tbo bußioess, but Mr Thomson had then nothing to say, and tho application was adjourned for repairs to be oarried out. *
