A meeting of members of the-Education Board and oitizens waa held to-day to coneider the question cf initiating a movement to raise subsosiptions towards funds for a new technical oollege. Mr L. J. BagDßll explained that L4OOO had been placed upon the estimates last session towards a new teohnioal sohool, and that since then the trustees of tho Audi land Savings Bank had signified their intention of donating LIO.OOO of surplus funds to the Bame objeot. This would oarry with it LIO.OOO subsidy, making a total of L 24.000 now in sight. It would take L 30.000 to oreot a building suitable for the requirements of the oity, aod L6OOO was sti>l required. If the publio eubsoribed L3OOO this would carry a L3OOO subsidy, and would plaoe them within the maik. It was decided to apply to the oity and other local bodies for contributions, and also form committees to canvats districts and colleot subscriptions. The sum of L 350 has already been promised. The New Saxon Gold Mining Company treated 56 loads of ore and 801 b of picked stone for a yield of 1570 z lOdwt of retorted gold, valued approximately at £450. The Chamber of Commeroe, at a epeoial mooting, resolved that there should to an Auokland court at the New Zealand Exhibition, assuming Waikato and other oountry districts would co-operate in the combined provincial oourt.
