At tbe annual roosting of the Colonial Life Sooiety tho report was adopted. It showrd a substantial increase in new business, £45,000 more than last year, Tbe annual inoome exceeds £465,000, while the funds amount to over £3,000,000. In conneoiion with the petitions against Home Rule, Mr IJeakin states that some controversy to.k place over sending them through ihe Governor General to the Im perial authorities. The petitions were sent to the Governor-General without reference to his Ministers, and Lord Northcote declined to send them Home. Mr Deak’n threw out a hint at the time that the petitions might be sent through him, and that he would hand them to the Governor-General, but tho hint wa3 not taken.
