WILLIAMSON’S COMIC OPERA CO.

To-morrow morning at 10 o’clock the box plan for the above season will be opened under the direction of Mr Miller at His Majesty’s Theatre, and early enquiries predict a large booking. A rich and rare treat for the musicloving public is Mr J. C- Williamson’s Comic Opera Company. They produce here on Monday next Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan’s charming work, “The Gondoliers.’’ It is so many years since this charming opera was last heard here that the present production will come with a delightful freshness. The opera is musically unsurpassed, whilst its excellent humor and brilliant satire has never been excelled. The second production on Tuesday, will be the universally popular opera “Princess Ida,’’ and on Wednesday, farewell night of the season the management will present the last work of Messrs Gilbert and Pullivan’s “Utopia Ltd.,” or “ The Flowers of Progress.” “Utopia Ltd.” has proved a sensational success. The Australian Press repoit (Age) : “We can only advise our readers to go and judge for themselves whether the author has ever excelled, or even equalled, some of the humorous touches that mark this last of the Gilbert and Sullivan series.” The London Times says : “ The Gondoliers indeed, it is hard to remember any work of the same hands that is worthy to stand beside the new production for pointed dialogue and oasily assimilated music. ’ All these productions will bo pro* sented on tho same lavish scale which has characterised all Mr Williamson’s productions. The company is a higblycapable one, and contains many of the most brilliant operatic stars in the colonies. The ladies and gentlemen of the chorus will again be a special feature of the season. The productions are staged under the supervision of Mr Henry Bracy, and a full and elhcient orchostra is in the hands of Geo. Hall. The season musically promises a huge feast to theatre-goers, and a prosperous time should even tuaie. The latest London sensation, the “ Badium Ballet,” will also be a special feature of the company’s season. Both in Wellington and Auckland this novel attraction was encored many times nightly and proved an undeniable triumph.
