King Edward, Qteon A'exandria sooompanyiog him, opened the central offices of tbe Hearts of Oak Benefit Society at Baint Panorae. Newspapers state that this is not the first occasion the work of tbe Friendly Societ'es bad been recognised so directly by the Sovereign, Io response to an address by Mr J. D. S’m, Chief Registrar of Friendly Societies, Kiog Edward warmly sympathised with voluntary efforts at thrift. He rejoiced at the splendid success achieved. Tbe prrgrees of tbe Societies was one of the clearest indications of the prosperity of the people. The Primate, Mr Gladstone, Mr Burns, and the representatives of the Friendly Sooietiee were present.
