POUAWA. May 21. A meeting of settlers was held on Tuesday evening last, at the residence of Mr Fraser, to consider the possibility of obtaining a telephone service for the district (which by the way is very much wanted). It was decided if nothing unforeseen arose to approach the postil authorities on the subject, and proceed with the work as soon as possible, , , . anr On Friday last a mob of about 80C fat atop and lambs the property £ Mr Fraser, were sent on to the Uis borne Sheepfarmers’ Freezing Works: and to-morrow 50 head of fat buUooki belonging to the same owner will alsi start for the same destination. In al probability the above are likely to b about the last fats of the season fror the district. , For two weeks past the weather ha been simply perfect, although tc shortest day is only a little over month hence., The temperature is r< markably mild, and a considerab growth is still perceptible. _ AH classes of stock are doing wo As a result of tho County tyre b law coming into force on the 15 th las thereby stopping all heavy carting, working bee was held on Friday to up the Pouawa road for tho lighl traffic during the winter months, all twelve men turned up and put some very useful work, which shoi go a long way towards preserving ' road for the season.
