WEST END AND TAKITIMU

The above Clubs met on-Saturday on No. I ground, aud after a oiose game th* former won by 8 poiots to 3. West End were without tbe servie-rs of the Te~ Rail College Smdenta, which oonsiderally weaksned oomb.ua'.ion.. The game wb9 i bard one, beiog principally a forward one, which showed good condition,. Rangi scored for T«ktimu and Oarr for West End., . Robinson k'cked two goals from murk- for We t End. The Takitimu backs h-ndied the ball very cleverly; ami with a little more combination should giv>3 tbe town teams very good garnet, Ra, Kara, Tapu, and Te Haii are' a fins quartstte, and compare! favorably' with the opposing backs. The most conspicuous of the Takiiimu vanguard were tho hookers, Rangi an.d Wyllie, who were on the ball all the lime. Parker Turei stood a|ono among the West End forwards, although the others- all- worked hard. Rowe, behind the scrum, and Robinson, five-eighths, were the mainstay of tbe backs. Oarr, at centre, also played jvell, and Tate was as safe as usual at full. 'V

Mr B. G. Hallamore controlled the game in an efficient manner.

KAITI-CITY Y. HUIA.

Kaiti-Oity had an easy win over Huia on No. II ground, patting op the respectable score of 20 poiats to 8. Tbe KaitiCity forwards secured tbe ball from every serum, aud Paulson, scrum half, made splendid openings, but the three quarters failed to make the best use Of them by orowdiDg on the line. Bronghton and Scbrafft did splendid work at wing threequarter for Kaiti-City, and bad they been fed tbe score would have been much larger. Tbe other backs showed good form, but should emulate Poulaon’s tactics in running straight and passing qnick and low, ’ The forwards did not show as good form as on the preceding Saturday, aud were evidently not extended. For Huia Lascelles, Leab, and Williams showed splendid back defence, Tho latter, who triads bis first appearance bere, did some exoellent work both in attaok and dofenoe, and his line-k’oking was a big help to his Bide. Tbe forwards, though outclassed, stock to it manfully, and pot plenty; of go into their work. Walker was the pick, and ail through the game bis play stood out as masterly. Sohwabe played as con* sistly as ueua'. Mr W. Howard gave satisfaction wilh the whistle, and was strictly impartial.
