Dunedin, last night. At the first annual meeting of tho Now Zealand Pape.- Mills Company this afternoon tho ohairman said novor boforo in tbo history of papor-making in this oolony had suoh a deailh of row material of good quality boen known. Referring to competition from outside, bo complained that tho oolony was regulaily oauvassed from end to end by representatives of British and foreign mills, which wore able, by moans of abundant supplies of oboap raw material and cheap labor, to land a good article at a low rate. When the colony is used as a dumping ground for surplus sreoks of low gra te, aud when ela*o.ately print, d bags wore lauded, which paid duty on the material only, and nothing on tho work they bore, the handicap ou tbo ooloniul urtiolo wa- severe. Ho appealed to shareholders of tho oompany to try to induce tradesmen t > supply goods in locally-mado wrappers only.
