Chris'ohurch. last night. The s s. Tarawera arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 1 o’clock this morning. Sho took 32 hours to complete the trip. The Government has reconsidered
its decision that the Besses o’ the Barn Band be not ongaged for the Exhibition, and has now agreed to the recommendation of the Entertainment Committee, and will sanction the engagement of the band for two fortnightly seasons at a total cost of £2500. One of the conditions is that the band will make its first appe ir* ance at the New Zealand Exhibition.
Eketahuna, last night.
A sawmill belonging to A. Falkner, at Kaiporo, was destroyed by fire. Nothing was saved. It is supposed that the insurance covers about a third of the value.
