MUSICAL FESTIVAL.

The musical festival in His Majesty'* Theatre last night in connection with the Salvation Army was a great success. There was a large attendance, among those giving their patronage being His Worship the Mayor and the Mayoress. The City Band kindly gave their aid, playing'first in the open air and then living the opening selection in the hall, “Stephen Adams' Songs." \ r oeal solos were also given in that order byMrJ. East (“Child of Nazareth"), Mr Brownlee, Mrs Slattery (“ Dream of Paradise”), Miss Atkin (“ The Last Milestone "), Mr Samcncs, and Mr Goldsmith (“ Light of die World ”). An attractive feature was the timbrel drill by the Army Timbre Band, under Mrs Slattery. Mr Pickford, the City Bandmaster, gave a cornet solo. A very popular item was a descriptive fantasia by the City Band—“ Smithy in the Wood,” with anvil effects. A paiiy song was given by the Salvation Army Songsters. Mr Jack Pochard* played a trombone solo, with band accompaniment. A sweet and impressive mimbe' was a telephone song, “ Please give me Heaven,” by a little schoolgirl; Mary Grace. The drumming exhibition by Bandmaster Shepherd was a special feature that was highly appreciated. Ah | the items were enthusiastically applauded but the programme was ao extensive that no encores were given,
