There was a distinguished gathering at the Barraoks. inoluding Lord and Lady Nonhoote, Sir Harry liawson, Admiral Fawkes, and Admiral Sbunstnura. Lady Northaoie presented new oolors to the First Australian Regiment in honor of the day The proceedings at the Royal Exchange were marked with much eDthu siasm. Imperialistic speeches were delivered by Admiral Fawkes and others, a great gathering, assisted by the Liedertafel, rendering the National Anthem and other appropriate numbers Vessels in the harbor and some public buildings were illuminated, but the oontinnanoe of rain had a depressing eflsct, Oouotry reports ehow that celebrations were general, but greatly interfered with by rain.

Janet Lady Cliuke, of Melbourne, conveyed to Lord Meath tho Australian Women’s National League's greetings on Empire Day. The Standard publishes cables from litany leading colonial statesmen approving of the celebration.
Sydney, May 24. The Governor's reception to-night was & brilliant assemblage. Air Carruthers received a cable from Lord Meath, originator of Empire Lay, containing the word “ Rejoice.”
