At the wool sales a miscellaneous selection was offered. There was a slight irregularity in prices, but medium and good sorts realised the highest prices of the scries. The llseee portions of the following clips averaged : Warameu 14-i'd, Chris' church 13 5-Bd, Kawarau 11 5 Bd. Wheat •. Sydoey, May 23. A strong demand was manifested at the wool sales. Prices were fully five per centum above last month, and occasionally more.
SALE AT MATAWHERO YARDS.
A cold day with a southerly gtle blowing did not augur too well for the success of tho ootnbined Biles at Matawhero yesterday. Nevertheless, there was a large and representative attendance, and tho volume of business transacted was euffio'ent evidence of the fact that all parties were satisfied. Several excellent lines of sheep from the East Coast were disposed of at satisfactory prices. Mr A. F. Kennedy conducted the sale for Messrs Williams and Kettle, Mr G. R. Wyllie officiating as auctioneer, whilst Messrs J. B. Ke Is and A. W«obsmann represented the firms of Messrs OommoD, Shilton nod Co. and Dalgety Bnd Co. respectively. Mr W. F. J Anderson was present on behalf of Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co , and Mr J. W. Bright for the Loan and Mercantile Co.

Messrs Common, Sbelton and Co. report:—Thote was a maiked contrast in regard to last ta'e, and prices ful.y recovered tbeir normal value. Buyers opened freely, acd we eo'd a'l _ cur combined yarding with keen competition, with tho exoeption of two email pens. MESSRS WILLIAMS AND KETTLE
Messrs Williams and Kettle report:— Our yarding consisted of 8000 sheep and 450 head of cattle. Contrary to expectation, bidding was very slack indeed, both for cattle and sheep, and prices showed a marked decline on the last few sales. The turnip men still tailed to come to light, and although the offering was of excellent quality many lines of hoggets were passed without any competition. We quote: !!9;-) hoggets 7s Id, 70 old ewes -Is, 106 ewes 9s°6d. 550 two-tooth wethers 14s 2d, 500 ditto 14s, 263 ewes 0s 6d, 584 ewes 5s 3d. 72 two-tooth ewes 7s Id, 200 hoggets 5s Oil. 24 ewes 8s Od. 219 ewes 9s, 630 ewes IJs. 71 wethers 12s Od, 40 fat ewes Us. 208 hoggets 4s, 12 fat ewes Lis, 100 wethers Us, 100 hoggets 4s Od, 120 wethers 13s lOd, 307 hoggets Bs. Cattle were iu dull demand, but in spilo of tbo adverse markets we oleared nearly all our linep. Light beef made from £5 to £5 10s, fit cows £4 to £5, 21-veer-old steers £4 to £4 s<. Station cows sold from £2 to £3, abd dairy cows from £3 to £5. Calves realised from 15s to 255. We bad a nice lot of 53 pigs on offer, and they were sold up to 3'Js each for baoonere, and 10s for wraners,
