MEIKLE COMMISSION.
(Pew Press Association.) Wellington, last night. Tho Me’k'e Commission opened its sittings in Wellington this morning. John D. Reddy, manager of the City Club, gave evidence as to a oonversaticn with Lambert about 19 years ago,in which Lambert said if Meiklo did not steal the particular sheep for which he was oonvictod, be had stolen others. Thomas M. Muedonnell, Crown Prosecutor at Invercargill for over 30 years, gave particulars of the prosecution in tho Me'kle case.
The Commission has concluded takag evidence.
Dr. Findhy slated he had a telegram from Sir Robert Stout contradicting Mrs Mtikle’s evidence as to the offer of jGIOO if certain letters were obtained. Dr. Findlay also aßkod that Camoron’s evidenoe should be taken on commission in London as to tho acourooy of Sutherland’s stato mont that he, Cameron, said he had set a trap for Meiklo. Mr Atkinson offered no objection, and the Court agreed that Mr McNab’s evi* dence ae to whether Meikle authorised him to accept TSOO in full sett'emont of the claim be taken on Mr McNab’s return from England. The Commission suggested that oounsel might write their addresses instead of delivering them in Coutt, and oounsel promised to consider tho matter,
