Nelson, last night.
The ten-roomed bouso of Mr Geo. Kite, at Tadmor, has boaa destroyed by fire. Mrs Kite and her son were the only oooupants at the time, and the former was awaksned by something falling. Finding the room full of smoke she rushed to her son’s room, whore the fhmss were breaking through alongside his b9d. Having aroused him they escaped. Nothing was saved. The insurance wa3 only £175 and the loss is heavy.
Dunedin, last night.
The furniture wamhouso of burloy and 00., Balolutha, v/as burned down yesterday evening. Tho insurances on the stock, building, and machinery wore ,£IOOO. The Io3S is £2OOO ovor the insurance,

The State school at Alfrodton was totally destroyed by fire last evening. The oause is a mystery.
DESTRUCTION OF MR WILLIAMS STORE AT HAUITI.
[(Special to Gisborne Times.) Tolago Bay, last night,
At half past ten last ovoning the genoral Btore at Hauiti, ownod by Mr George Williams, was totally destroyed by fire. The fire started in tho boat room, and fed by a strong south-west wind the whole of the buildings were soon iQ flames, ' A portion of the stock was saved. The books, eto.. were saved. Everything in the Post Offioe was savod, inc uding the telephones, The employees were in a room in the shop at the time. Tho firo when first observed was in the ceiling, but it had too strong a hold to enable any attempts to be made to extinguish it. A number of Maoris wero soon on tho SCODB, and leDt valuable assistance in removing the stock, books and Post Office effect?. The insurances are not known for ceriaiD but it is understood that Mr Williams has policies in the New Z ’aland and NorW ieh U"iou Offices smountiog to upwards pUIQQQ, ..
