The Gisborne Times PUBLISHED EVERY MORNING. GISBORNE, MAY 10, 1906. THE WOOL SALES.

There, must naturally be Jubilation in this district at the condition of affairs on the opening of the present series nf wool sales. There has been an allround increase, but especially in regard to the glass of wool forming the-, bulk of that ex» ported from this district. There will of course now be a good deal of speculation as to future prospects. Some look for a still" further rise, while . maDy have been for a long time prophesying a fall more than equalling •the gain by recent rises. Apparently neither one prophet nor the other pan be relied .on, as practically ait have been found to be relying largely upon guesswork. The prophet who takes up the bright side and in practice succeeds in fairjy forecasting results is always held in esteem, while the one who preaches bad times is sometimes regarded as a croaker The pleasing feature of the wool market now is that it is well above the point at which the industry can bo profitably run. The good times are actually with us from the sheep-owner’s point of view, and the . great need now is merely to exercise a caution lest the good times be succeeded by a period of low prices Them js nothing to indicate that there will he any substantial fall in prices, but the present is the best time to make due provision for the dull times that might possibly be ip store. Townspeople generally will ' heartily congratulate the sheep- j farmers and hope that prices may ( go still highor.
