The Electric Light Committee of the City Council recommends a reduction in the price of electricity from 2d to lid per unit. Business has increased to such an oxtent that it is considered the Council can afford the reduction.
The Minister of Defouce states that he is satisfied the Military Board intends to give a trial to local control. An Imperial officer will not be brought out to succeed Major-General Finn. It would be a disgrace to Australia if it could not find a local officer capable of taking charge of our small force. The system of exchanging Imperial and Colonial officers for the purpose of gaining experience would, however, be continued.

Mr Fehon will probably retire. Mr Kirkcaldie and another will act as deputy commissioners to a chief to be obtained from England. A portion of tho cargo has been damaged. A general average of 7A per cent, has been declared on the cargo. The barquo GriffoPs stem was badly twisted, a number of plates on each side being damaged.
