Fearing that some violence was intended, the nurse turned sharply off the road and took refuge on the verandah of a house, whioh afterwards proved to be empty. Io the meantime the two men had stopped, taking up stations near the house, and apparently waitiog for her to come out. After she had been held up for between twenty minutes and half an hour, she heard other footsteps approaohing, and divining them to be those of a friendly person, she rushed out and caught the newcomer, a young law student, by the arm. The two men who were watchiDg then made off. The law studeDt was at first alarmed as, net liking the appearance and manner of the men, he thought the nurse was a female accomplice, and that he was in for Borne serious trouble. However, the explanations of the nurse allayed his fears, and he escorted her to the gates of the hospital, where sho arrived in a state of exoitement, but not otborwise affected by her unpleasant experience.
