AUCKLAND NEWS.
.(Per Press A *o^“|icn,J Auokland, last night. Some cattle have died at Bombay under oircumstances which lead to a suspicion of anthrax. Three cattle are dead, and two more are eiokly looking. They were kept in paddocks that had lately been top* dressed with bonedust, which, it is alleged, had been sold as steamed. The Ssook Inspector has gone to Bombay to make an examination.
The Mayor has interviewed the Police Commissioner and Inspector Cullen to ascertain if there was any probability of obtaining additions to tbe Auckland polioe force. Commissioner Dinnie slated that six more men would be shortly drafted to Auokland, and if the oensus showed suoh inorease of population as would entitle Auckland to a greater number, he would make that reoommendatioo. Mr A M. Myers was installed for his seoond term as Mayor of Auckland tc day, In tho course of an address he referred to tho sutislaotory progress male in munici* pal affairs during tho past year, and re* ferred to the future protpeota of the city, which ha deolarod were most hopeful and encouraging.
